A 24-year-old man by the name of Chief, accused of being a serial thief and galamseyer, was found dead in his room under unusual circumstances at Wassa Akyem in the Western region.

The incident occurred shortly after his release from police custody, sparking mixed reactions within the community.

Chief, known locally for his repeated arrests over alleged thefts from illegal mining sites, was discovered by his mother in a pool of blood with visible injuries to his face, forehead, and other parts of his body.

A report by Agya Ebenezer on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM stated that a knife was also found in the room.

The deceased had a notorious reputation in Wassa Akyem, with a pattern of being arrested for stealing from galamsey operations, handed over to the police, and released within 24 hours without prosecution.

This recurring cycle had frustrated residents who complained about his alleged criminal activities.

The events unfolded after Chief and accomplices allegedly raided an illegal mining site on Saturday, July 12, 2025, stealing equipment and valuables.

He was arrested and released less than a day later.

Chief’s mother found him slumped in a chair, phone clutched to his chest, with blood oozing from multiple wounds.

A knife was discovered in the room, deepening the mystery.

Many residents are reportedly rejoicing over the chief’s death, claiming it is for the better good of the community due to his alleged continuous thefts and perceived lack of justice.

The police have launched an investigation, and the deceased body has been deposited at the mortuary.
