The Member of Parliament for Subin, Hon. Kofi Obiri Yeboah, has raised serious concerns over the recent embargo on state and public lands announced by President John Dramani Mahama on January 10, 2025.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Yeboah acknowledged the President’s intention to safeguard public lands for national interest but warned that the embargo is causing significant disruptions to land registration processes and harming private investment.
He cited cases such as the Osumanche Layout, where individuals and corporate bodies with legitimate land interests are now unable to proceed with registrations or use their lands as collateral for loans.
He noted that this development contradicts the government’s commitment to promoting private sector growth.
“At a time when the economy is struggling with inflation, high interest rates, and cedi depreciation, this embargo could worsen the investment climate,” he said.
Hon. Yeboah urged the government to engage with stakeholders to review the embargo’s scope and consider exemptions for legally acquired properties.
He emphasised that such a move would help restore certainty, uphold property rights, and support economic recovery efforts.
