He disclosed this at the state funeral held on August 15, 2025, in honour of the departed souls.

He explained that the fund has been established to provide for the welfare of the victims’ children, covering their education from basic school through university, as well as shelter, medical care, insurance, and other necessary expenses.

He added that the government would also make a significant seed contribution, and a detailed framework for the fund would be operationalised and published within the next thirty days.

He also mentioned that the government would create channels for contributions from citizens, corporate organisations, professional associations, and international partners.

President Mahama assured the mourners and Ghanaians that the government will remain accountable and transparent in how the fund is managed.

The ceremony, which took place at the Black Star Square, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the President and Vice President, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as members of the Judiciary, the Council of State, heads of security agencies, parliamentarians, ministers, and members of the diplomatic corps.
