A 24-year-old ‘pragyia’ rider, Bernard, popularly known as “Critical,” has been shot and killed by unknown attackers in Sofokyere, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025, while Bernard was working with his green tricycle, with the registration number M-25-BR(314).

The rider is said to have picked up the attackers, who asked to be taken to Sofokyere. It was there that they allegedly shot him and fled the scene.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, as the assailants allegedly fled the scene without taking any valuables from the deceased

Residents in the area rushed to the scene after hearing a gunshot, only to find the young man in a pool of blood with severe head injuries.

They immediately informed the police.

The Assembly Member for Sofokyere, Hon. Aful Isaac, disclosed that Bernard was from Biadan, another suburb of Berekum.

This incident marks the third such attack in the
area, causing fear and panic among residents and ‘pragyia’ riders in Berekum East.

The Chairman of the National Union of Tricycles of Ghana (NUTOG), Mr. Appiah Ramson, has expressed concern over the attacks on ‘pragyia’ riders in Berekum East.

The union has threatened to embark on a strike action if authorities fail to investigate and bring the attackers to book.

The body of the ‘pragyia’ rider has been deposited at the Holy Family Catholic Hospital mortuary for further investigations.
