The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has announced its decision to implement a new policy for the renewal of pensioner certificates.
A statement issued by management indicated that the revised policy, effective April 2026, introduces mandatory annual renewal of pensioner certificates for all pensioners.
According to the statement, retirees who have reached the compulsory retirement age of 60 or the voluntary retirement age of 55 are required to renew their pensioner certificates annually during their birth month to ensure uninterrupted pension payments.
SSNIT emphasised that this new policy aims to enhance the integrity of the SSNIT Pension Scheme by verifying the status of beneficiaries and ensuring that pension payments are made solely to eligible and living recipients.
A special arrangement has also been made for pensioners with mobility challenges, and their verification would be done in their homes.
“To promote accessibility and inclusion, SSNIT has instituted arrangements for pensioners with mobility challenges to be verified at home.
Such pensioners may kindly call the SSNIT Contact Centre number on 0302 611 622 to schedule a home visit for the pensioner certificate renewal.
Pensioners will receive reminders at least one month before their birth month via SMS, email or other approved communication channels.”
Pensioners may renew their certificates through any of the following channels:
- SSNIT Mobile App: Facial Verification (Resident & Non-resident pensioners)
- SSNIT Virtual Branch
- SSNIT Partner Banks (Co-locations)
- Any SSNIT Branch nationwide
