The Ghana Police Service has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in a syndicate utilising taxis to steal mobile phones and other valuable items from unsuspecting victims.
According to a statement released by the police on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the suspects are identified as Sasu Lawrence, alias Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor. Their arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on January 12, 2026.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects primarily operate during early hours, posing as taxi drivers in search of passengers. The suspects’ modus operandi involves two individuals sitting in the front seats while one positions himself in the back seat.
Upon a victim, mostly women, boarding the taxi, the suspects allegedly lock the doors, making it difficult for the victim to exit.
As the victim struggles to open the door, the suspect seated at the back pretends to assist but steals the victim’s mobile phone or wallet.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend individuals who receive and trade in the stolen items.
