Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a firm reminder to the party’s five presidential aspirants: no single candidate can secure victory in the 2028 general elections alone.
Speaking at a “Peace Picture” ceremony held on January 22, 2026, Frimpong emphasised that the winner of the upcoming January 31 primary will be heavily dependent on the cooperation of their defeated rivals to reclaim power.
He urged the candidates to prioritize party cohesion at every stage of the internal race. He noted that the period before, during, and after the primary would be a critical test of the party’s stability.
”Please, all of you should understand that none of you alone can secure victory for the party in 2028,” Frimpong stated. “You will need the full support of those you are contesting against today.”

The General Secretary assured all five aspirants that the party leadership would remain a steadfast partner to the eventual nominee, ensuring a united front heading into the national campaign.
Addressing concerns regarding the conduct of the polls, the “Chief Scribe” issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers.
He noted that any individuals—whether from within the party or outside—planning to disrupt the election should reconsider, as they will be dealt with according to the law.
He concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, ensuring that the will of the delegates is respected.
