The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced the forfeiture of membership for Mr Umar Sanda, following his decision to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election as an independent candidate.
This was contained in a statement issued on February 17, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
The party stated that Sanda’s move is a “direct contravention” of the NDC Constitution. The party leadership emphasised that the decision to break ranks and run against the officially endorsed NDC candidate triggered an automatic expulsion with immediate effect.
“By virtue of your decision to break ranks with the Party… you have, in accordance with the provisions of the Party’s Constitution, automatically forfeited your membership,” the statement read.
The party has also cautioned him against the use of the party’s name, logo, colours, or any other intellectual property during his campaign for the March 3rd by-election.
The move signals the party’s commitment to maintaining internal discipline and ensuring a unified front as the constituency heads to the polls.
