The Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Akasake Abaa, has passed away following a brief illness.
According to reports reaching Rainbowradioonline.com, the DCE succumbed to his condition at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Alhaji Tahiru Aberinga, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Bongo Constituency, confirmed the news, describing it as shocking and unexpected.
Prior to his appointment as DCE by President John Dramani Mahama in April 2025, Mr Abaa had a long-standing history of public service, serving three consecutive terms as an Assembly Member for Zorko-Goo-Awaah. Additionally, he held key positions within the NDC, including Bongo Constituency Youth Organiser and Constituency Secretary, a role he assumed in 2022.
The late DCE also gained valuable experience working as a storekeeper at Sirigu Integrated Senior High School and Zuarungu Senior High School.
