Ghanaian actor and acting coach Adjetey Anang has expressed firm confidence in the local film industry’s ability to produce high-calibre, box-office-quality movies.
He believes Ghana is well-positioned to become a hub for premium productions that meet international standards, provided the industry focuses on the right areas.
He noted that reaching this level requires more than just financial investment. Success will come through a combination of strategic collaborations, partnerships, capacity building, and continuous training.
Responding to whether Ghana truly has what it takes to compete globally, Anang opined that industry players must be willing to learn new skills and enhance their existing ones to elevate their craft.
Speaking on the mid-morning show on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Anang addressed the gap between raw talent and professional excellence.
He observed that while the country is rich in talent, some actors are more interested in becoming famous than in putting in the work to become better.
“It is possible to achieve that. We have the talent, but we have some steps we still have to take. How passionate are we about doing that? Actors have different mindsets; some want to be famous but have no interest in learning or upgrading. You may have the talent, but you will need to polish your talent. With talent, skill, and training, you can go far.”
Adjetey Anang told host Eddie Ray that the Western world remains ahead because they never stop learning, which is a culture Ghanaian filmmakers ought to adopt.
He stressed that the most important factor for growth is moving away from a purely individualistic approach to filmmaking.
“I understand how sometimes we all want to pursue a project individually, but through collaborations and partnerships, we can achieve a lot and give Ghana the image of having the capacity to thrive.”
