Ghanaian visual artist Ibrahim Mahama has emphasised that his primary objective is to attain justice, rather than seeking financial compensation, following the alleged assault he endured at the hands of police officers.
The artist made these remarks subsequent to a meeting with the Police Management Board (POMAB) on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
He was invited to the police headquarters as part of ongoing investigations into claims of assault involving members of the Inspector General of Police’s Special Task Force operating the ‘Black Maria’.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mahama stated that the purpose of the engagement was to ensure accountability and transparency in addressing the incident.
He explained that his main concern is to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident and to hold those responsible accountable.
“No, we are not looking for compensation. There is no way we are looking for money. Obviously, I don’t need that. It’s not about that. It’s more just about justice.
“We just want to make sure people understand what transpired that day. Because we are all in the country, we are in a democracy. We want to understand what is happening and see how we can solve it,” he said.
He added, “So that when other people are elsewhere and things like this happen, at least they are assured that in the country they live in, their matter will be taken seriously and there will be some kind of justice.”
