A 60-year-old man has been detained by police for allegedly tethering his teenage son to a quad bike and dragging him along a tarmac road in North Legon, Accra, inflicting multiple injuries.
The suspect, identified as Eric Mantey, was apprehended by the Madina Divisional Police Command following the incident, which took place near the Adonai Church on 3 May 2026.
During a press briefing on Thursday, 7 May 2026, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, explained that the 16-year-old victim had defied his father’s instructions by leaving the house to play football with friends.
Investigations suggest that Mr Mantey, incensed by his son’s disobedience, confronted the teenager and allegedly tied him to the vehicle before driving away.
Witnesses reported that the boy fell onto the road surface and was dragged for several minutes until local residents intervened to halt the suspect.
The victim sustained various injuries and was subsequently taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Superintendent Obeng confirmed that the suspect admitted the offence during interrogation, claiming his actions were a direct result of being provoked by his son’s conduct.
