I’m a devoted Christian, but I’ve relaxed these days because Christ and Christianity have been commercialised – Kwaisey Pee

Kwaisey-Pee

Ghanaian musician Kwaisey Pee has revealed that although he remains a dedicated and committed Christian, he has consciously stepped back from active participation due to troubling personal observations.

Speaking on the mid-morning drive on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the highlife singer asserted that modern Christianity has become increasingly transactional.

He questioned whether the Jesus Christ who died to reconnect humanity with God is truly the same figure being preached about in contemporary circles.

The musician noted that within the religious landscape, individuals who find the courage to speak up are often unfairly labelled as arrogant.

Kwaisey Pee posited that any person with the confidence to question authority is frequently dismissed with this tag.

To illustrate his point, he cited a viral video involving a Christian woman who questioned her pastor and referred to certain ministers as “thieves” regarding the use of tithes.

He observed that Ghanaians, particularly Christians, attacked the woman because of a deep-seated conditioning in how they think and react to authority figures.

Addressing host Eddie Ray, he argued that since God created humans in His own image, individuals possess the inherent right to seek accountability.

He specifically claimed that tithes are not intended solely for the church’s coffers but should be distributed to widows, the needy, orphans, and the poor.

He expanded on this by stating, “Every church in Ghana collects tithes and the Bible has made it categorically clear that the tithes are not meant for the pastors alone but also for widows, the needy, orphans, and the poor. But most of the time, when they take the tithes, what do they use them for?”

When questioned by the host on whether he still considers himself a believer in light of these views, the musician clarified his current spiritual stance.

“I am a devoted Christian. I am a Christian by all standards but I have relaxed these days because it has gotten to a point that, like someone said, Jesus Christ is the product we are somehow selling but some people are benefiting much more than others. If you assemble ten people, only three of them can stand the test of time as being genuine followers of Christ. The seven others, you have nothing to say about them.”
