The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has assured the public that preparations are well advanced for repair works on the Kaneshie footbridge.

Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the Public Relations Officer for the AMA, acknowledged that no physical works have been visible onsite despite a month passing since the footbridge was closed.

However, he was quick to add that the AMA has implemented measures to ensure public safety, explaining that a significant portion of the current structural work is taking place offsite.

Specifically, he revealed that the replacement concrete slabs and other essential logistics are currently being fabricated.

The AMA is working in close collaboration with the Department of Urban Roads to execute the project.

Detailing the progress, Mr Ankrah explained: “When it comes to working on the footbridge, much of the work we have to do is actually offsite. So, as we speak, a large number of the concrete slabs are being worked on. The AMA will not be solely in charge; the Assembly will be executing this together with Urban Roads. Whatever needs to be done offsite before physical works begin is currently ongoing.”

He reiterated that the AMA remains deeply committed to ensuring the safety of commuters who use the infrastructure.

To facilitate the upcoming physical phase of the project, he announced that the AMA will soon divert traffic on the adjacent street so that onsite works can safely commence.

He concluded by emphasising that the bridge was initially closed because the assembly prioritised public safety to prevent any form of disaster in the area.
