According to him, the screening exercise for those intending to leave started on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Speaking in an interview with DW Africa, he stated that they have received very disturbing reports from South Africa of attacks on Nigerian nationals.

These attacks, he noted, have intensified due to the protests organised by groups such as ‘Operation Dudula’ and ‘March for March’.

“As we speak currently, about 1,092 Nigerians have registered to leave the country voluntarily. And the screening exercise for those that are intending to leave commenced yesterday .

We have very disturbing reports from South Africa, especially for the past three weeks, as a result of the protests organised by groups such as March for March and Operation Dudula, that are forcing or compelling or instigating that foreigners living in the country should leave.”
