DVLA alerts public over fraudulent SMS payment links and fine scams

June 10, 2026
DVLA

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued an urgent public warning regarding the activities of fraudsters targeting unsuspecting individuals with fake SMS messages and online scam platforms.

According to the Authority, these scammers operate by sending text messages containing malicious links to clients.

Once clicked, recipients are redirected to fraudulent online platforms designed to trick them into paying non-existent DVLA fines under the guise of urgent deadlines or attractive discounts.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Authority firmly distanced itself from these schemes, urging the public to ignore them completely.

“DVLA wishes to categorically inform the general public that these messages are fraudulent and must be disregarded,” the statement noted.

To prevent further exploitation, the DVLA clarified that it does not offer discounts on fines and reiterated that any platform making such claims is illegitimate.

The management emphasized that the official website for the Authority remains www.dvla.gov.gh, and that the only approved online payment gateway for its transactions is the Government of Ghana’s official platform, https://www.Ghana.gov.gh.

The public is strongly advised to refrain from clicking on shortened or suspicious links, entering personal details, or transferring money through any unapproved channels.

Instead, individuals are encouraged to verify all security and licensing information through recognized DVLA offices or official communication portals.

“DVLA remains committed to protecting the public from fraudulent activities and ensuring that all official transactions are conducted through secure and approved channels,” the Authority added, while urging anyone who receives these deceptive messages to report them to law enforcement agencies or the nearest DVLA office.
