The Assembly Member for the Kinka Electoral Area, Honourable Carlos Mankatta, has described the fatal accident that occurred in Bukom on Monday evening, 27 July 2026, as a dark and deeply unfortunate day for the community.
The tragedy struck when a four-door passenger sedan, bearing registration number AD 5474-26, rammed into a crowd of residents in the Odododiodoo constituency.
The violent crash claimed the life of a young woman instantly at the scene and left over a dozen others with varying degrees of injury.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the vehicle suffered a sudden brake failure while travelling at high speed.
The car reportedly ploughed into five pedestrians arriving from the Busia area before crashing into a popular spot where local youth had gathered to watch Premier League football matches.
Residents identified the deceased victim as the daughter of a local vendor who sells Brukina, a popular millet and yoghurt drink.
Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Hon. Mankatta confirmed the casualty figures and outlined the ongoing medical emergency response.
He explained that the injured were initially rushed to the Ussher Clinic for immediate care.
However, five individuals who sustained critical injuries were subsequently transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, while three others remain at the Ussher Clinic, where they are currently responding to treatment.
Hon. Mankatta further revealed that the Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, visited the scene shortly after the incident to assess the damage and offer support to the affected victims, particularly the bereaved family.
He assured the public that the Assembly is committed to providing full assistance to everyone impacted by the tragedy.
Updating the public on legal proceedings, the Assembly Member disclosed that the driver involved in the crash was arraigned on Tuesday morning, 28 July 2026, and has been remanded in police custody for two weeks.
Hon. Mankatta extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wished all injured victims a swift and full recovery.
