An emergency response has been launched across Greater Accra after heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding throughout the region.

The Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council expressed deep concern over the unfolding situation, which has left numerous families displaced and facing severe hardships.

In response to the crisis, the Regional Minister has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to immediately deploy emergency response teams, alongside officers from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and technical personnel.

These teams have been ordered to intensify rescue operations, evacuate stranded residents, and deliver immediate relief.

In a public statement, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, emphasised that the safety and well-being of every resident remains the highest priority.

“I sincerely sympathize with those who have suffered losses, displacement and other hardships, and I want to assure every affected resident that you are not alone,” the Minister said, adding that local authorities are working closely with the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service to protect lives and property. “This is a time for decisive leadership and swift action.”

With the Ghana Meteorological Agency forecasting further rainfall, residents have been strongly urged to exercise extreme caution and restrict unnecessary movement.

Members of the public are advised to remain indoors where possible and stay clear of flood-prone areas, drains, and fast-flowing waters.

A specific appeal was also directed at parents and guardians to keep children away from the hazards. “No one should allow children to play in floodwater or attempt to cross flooded roads and drains,” the Minister warned.

Members of the public requiring emergency assistance are urged to contact NADMO immediately via their dedicated emergency lines or WhatsApp channel.

Officials have called for full public cooperation with emergency service personnel as rescue and relief efforts continue across the capital.
