The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has assured Parliament that the government’s school placement policy continues to promote fairness, merit, and equal access to quality education.
Responding to questions regarding the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), he noted that the process is designed to ensure transparency and equity while expanding access to secondary education in line with constitutional guarantees.
Under the Free SHS policy, at least 30 per cent of vacancies in Category “A” Senior High Schools are reserved for public basic school graduates to ensure equitable access to elite institutions.
Presenting the 2025 CSSPS results, the Minister disclosed that 71,406 public basic school graduates gained admission to Category “A” schools.
This figures represents 57.91 per cent of placements, exceeding the policy target and demonstrating the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities while maintaining merit-based standards.
He reaffirmed the ongoing commitment to improving educational infrastructure and implementing policies that foster inclusion across the sector.
