Ibrahim Mahama denies plans to acquire VALCO, threatens legal action over ‘vile’ claims

Ghanaian businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has forcefully debunked reports suggesting that he is seeking to acquire the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), describing the claims as completely baseless.

The clarification follows a recent protest organised by the Labour Union of VALCO, during which some demonstrators alleged that the Chief Executive Officer of Engineers & Planners was making moves to take over the state-owned aluminium smelter.

In a press statement issued by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, the business mogul made it clear that he holds no ambition to purchase VALCO nor has he initiated any processes toward such an acquisition.

“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO,” the statement read.

Addressing the accusations directly, the statement described the assertions as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and draw him into unnecessary controversy.

“Unfortunately, the allegation is the latest in several vile attempts to impute the integrity of Mr Ibrahim Mahama and subject him to needless public engagements,” Rafik Mahama stated.

Defending the credibility of the businessman’s commercial ventures, the statement emphasized that all corporate entities associated with Mr. Mahama have been legally established and managed in full compliance with the law, enabling them to remain resilient through changing political tides.

“The track record of the integrity of the businesses that Mr Mahama has interest in prove that his businesses are one of the best run operations across the African continent. All of the business interest of Mr Mahama have been legally commenced or acquired and operate within the ambit of applicable laws. That explains why his businesses have survived across seven (7) election cycles,” the statement noted.

Reaffirming his dedication to national development, the statement indicated that Mr. Mahama remains resolute in his mission to support the economic advancement of Ghana and the wider continent through sound, legitimate commercial investments.

Consequently, the statement revealed that Mr. Mahama has briefed his legal team to address the matter and protect his reputation.

“He has instructed his lawyers to take the necessary legal action,” the statement concluded.
