Greater Accra Regional Minister, Madam Linda Ocloo, has commended the youth of Bukom—particularly those who aided rescue efforts following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a young woman and injured several others.

Together with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Madam Ocloo visited Bukom to commiserate with the affected families.

The delegation visited the crash site, paid a condolence call to the bereaved family, and visited several survivors to convey the heartfelt condolences of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana.

Madam Ocloo noted that the visit offered a firsthand assessment of the situation and allowed officials to reassure the affected families of the government’s steadfast support.

She stated that the regional administration—working in close collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), the local Member of Parliament (MP), and key stakeholders—remains committed to implementing practical measures to strengthen road safety and prevent future tragedies in the community.

Addressing the financial burden on the victims, the Minister confirmed that while the MP for Odododiodoo, Nii Ashie Kotey, and the Mayor of Accra had already covered a portion of the medical expenses, the government would bear the remaining medical bills for all affected victims.

Madam Ocloo praised the courage, compassion, and swift action of the Bukom youth during the rescue operation, describing their selfless efforts as a testament to the community’s strength and unity.

“The President directed us to come to the scene and commiserate with the affected families. Unfortunately, we lost one person. We have visited the bereaved family and extended our condolences. We will put in place measures to provide support to the family to find a resting place for the deceased.

Beyond that, we will support those who were also injured. We will take care of their medical bills. The Mayor and the MP have been very supportive. We thank them and will continue to work together. Most importantly, we thank the youth in the area for their support—the support they provided in the rescue mission. We saw everything live on social media. At the appropriate time, we will identify all of them and compensate them.”

The tragedy struck when a four-door passenger sedan, bearing registration number AD 5474-26, rammed into a crowd of residents in the Odododiodoo constituency.

The violent crash claimed the life of a young woman instantly at the scene and left over a dozen others with varying degrees of injury.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the vehicle suffered a sudden brake failure while travelling at high speed.

The car reportedly ploughed into five pedestrians arriving from the Busia area before crashing into a popular spot where local youth had gathered to watch Premier League football matches.
