The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Eric Nyamekye, has revealed how his personal encounters with extreme crime in South Africa shaped the church’s passionate commitment to protecting Ghanaians in distress abroad.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, at the church’s headquarters in Accra, Apostle Nyamekye recounted surviving multiple life-threatening incidents during his six-year residence in the country.

“I lived in South Africa for about six years and I suffered a lot from some of these things. I almost died in South Africa. Two times, I was accosted by armed robbers. The last one was too dangerous. When I was leaving South Africa, my luggage was stolen,” he revealed.

The Pentecost Chairman added that his lived experiences made him the most suitable leader to intervene when crime directly targeted the church’s membership in the region.

“And then recently, I had to rush to South Africa, about a year plus ago, when our national deacon was kidnapped in the midst of an offering and I had to rush to South Africa. I was the right person to go, not because I was a chairman, but because they knew that I have also suffered from some of these things so I needed to go in there and speak,” Apostle Nyamekye stated.

Driven by these firsthand ordeals, Apostle Nyamekye stressed that the church’s mandate extends beyond spiritual ministry to the physical welfare and safety of Ghanaians worldwide. Drawing on past rescue efforts in Ukraine and South Africa, he proposed a formal partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leveraging the church’s extensive international network across 210 nations to assist citizens in times of crisis, particularly where Ghana lacks diplomatic missions.
