The Minister for the Interior has confirmed that the first batch of 10,000 successful applicants recruited into the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service have commenced official training.

Speaking on the progress of the national recruitment exercise at the GovernmentAccountability Series on Monday August, 24, 2026, the Minister revealed that a second batch of 10,000 candidates will be drawn from the existing pool of successful applicants to begin their training next year.

The structured intake forms part of government efforts to bolster internal security, reduce operational deficits, and expand personnel capacity across the country’s main security management agencies.

The announcement comes on the back of recent revelations regarding the rigorous health and background screening protocols implemented during the exercise.

According to figures previously highlighted by Minister, approximately 1,300 applicants were disqualified after testing positive for HIV during the mandatory medical examinations.

Furthermore, over 6,000 candidates failed the medical assessment due to confirmed traces of illicit drug use.

The Ministry maintained that the mandatory health screening remains a non-negotiable standard designed to evaluate the physical capability, operational readiness, and medical fitness of candidates prior to enlistment.

Addressing concerns over the enlistment process, the Interior Ministry reiterated that the recruitment has been conducted through transparent, merit-based channels using the official e-recruitment portal.

The Minister cautioned the public against falling victim to recruitment scams, emphasising that no third-party agents or political intermediaries were engaged to facilitate placement into any of the security services.

The current 10,000 recruits in training are expected to pass out upon completion of their intensive tactical and operational courses to reinforce law enforcement, border control, fire safety, and penal management across the nation.
