Five suspects have been taken into police custody following the violent robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer at Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The victim, Seth Kobina, was shot in the chest on August 20, 2026, when armed men raided his gold buying establishment around 8:00 p.m. He was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for emergency care, but health officials pronounced him dead on arrival.
A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service revealed that preliminary investigations and CCTV footage from the scene pointed to 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam,” as the suspected leader of the gang.
Police officers tracked Amponsah to a guest house in Agona Nkwanta on August 21, where he was apprehended. A search conducted during his arrest yielded a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
However, shortly after his arrest, Amponsah took ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for urgent medical care, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Intelligence-led operations subsequently led to the arrest of three additional suspects in the Agona Nkwanta vicinity: Christopher Seyiri, 47, alias “Cross and Die”; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, 30, alias “Wale.”
A fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, popularly known as “Last Burial,” was rounded up at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of Quayeson’s home led officers to recover another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar, and two cutlasses.
During interrogations, Quayeson identified the late Amponsah as the gunman who shot the gold buyer. He also pointed out Odoom as one of the robbers captured on the CCTV footage.
The surviving suspects are currently assisting the Western Regional Police Command with ongoing investigations, while intelligence teams continue to track down other accomplices linked to the deadly attack.
