At least seven persons, including a police officer, have sustained varying degrees of injury following a violent gun battle between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in the Central Region.
The violent confrontation stems from a long-standing land dispute between the two neighboring communities.
Reports indicate that the violence erupted when some residents from Gomoa Oguaakrom illegally crossed into New Winneba.
The group reportedly fired multiple gunshots into the air while attempting to forcibly lock up local shops and business centers in the area.
The sudden attack triggered immediate retaliation from the residents of New Winneba, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The affected police officer was caught in the crossfire while attempting to restore calm alongside a team of officers dispatched to the scene.
Several residents, gripped by fear over the escalating violence, have begun fleeing their homes to seek refuge in surrounding towns.
The police administration has since reinforced security presence in both communities to suppress the violence, restore law and order, and prevent further clashes.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators behind the attack.
