The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that it has not authorised any group of people to enter any government facility in order to retrieve, seize, or protect it.
According to the party, anyone who takes the law into his own hands must be strong enough to carry the weight of the law.
The police, however, must also not sleep on its responsibilities because a party has won power, the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, said.
He made the statement during a meeting between the party’s leadership and the police to discuss some documented incidences of looting and damage of state assets.
He stated that the party had already issued a statement urging supporters to desist from such lawlessness and also be moderate in their celebrations.
He said the police must ensure that the laws of Ghana are respected at all moments.
He explained that the laws would be used in ensuring that persons who have engaged in acts of corruption are prosecuted.
He emphasised the need for such measures to be carried out in compliance with the law and urged the NDC’s rank and file to wait for appropriate instructions from authorities, even in cases of provocation or a valid reason to engage.
