A 40-year-old suspected rapist, Yaw Nyarko, has been butchered to death by the brother of his intended victim at Akyem Batabi in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region.
The suspect, 28-year-old Bismarck Gbafa, is currently in the custody of the Akyem Oda Police, assisting with investigations after allegedly attacking Nyarko in retaliation for an assault on his 35-year-old sister, Celina Gbafa.
Narrating the incident from police custody, Bismarck stated that his sister arrived home early in the morning panting and in distress.
She reported that Nyarko—who was already on the Akyem Manso police wanted list for theft—had struck her from behind with a stick while she was returning home from her farm.
According to Celina, the strike caused her to fall alongside a pan carrying her farm produce. A fierce struggle ensued when Nyarko attempted to rape her.
She explained that when she refused his demands, the suspect seized her cutlass and attempted to hack her.
However, she managed to break free and flee home to raise the alarm.
Incensed by the account, Bismarck armed himself with a cutlass and pursued the suspect into the nearby bush where he was still hiding.
Upon locating Nyarko, Bismarck inflicted multiple deep machete wounds on him, leaving him to bleed to death.
Realising the suspect had died from his injuries, Bismarck surrendered himself to the Akim Oda Police, where he was detained to assist with ongoing enquiries.
Police officers have since conveyed the body of the deceased to the Akim Oda Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.
