Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured the nation that full funding for the construction of the transformational Accra–Kumasi Expressway will be completely secured by the end of this year, emphasizing that the massive infrastructure project will not add a single cedi to the country’s public debt stock.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, the Finance Minister praised the progress made on the project and highlighted the landmark nature of its financial arrangement.
“Hearty congratulations to our indefatigable army on a stellar job. By the end of this year, the full funding for the transformational Accra-Kumasi Expressway will be ready,” Dr Forson wrote.
Highlighting the historic nature of the project’s financial structure, he added: “This could be the first time funds for a project of this scale have been fully secured before construction begins. For the avoidance of doubt, not a single pesewa will be borrowed for this project!”
The Finance Minister’s commendation of the military comes as the Ghana Armed Forces near the total completion of ground site preparation work along the entire corridor.
Information available reveals that military personnel have made remarkable progress on the route, with only six kilometres remaining out of the total stretch left to be cleared.
The 48 Engineer Regiment has worked round the clock across difficult terrain, clearing trees, removing structures, and levelling ground to hand over a clean right-of-way for actual civil construction works.
The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is designed as a modern economic corridor linking the country’s capital to its commercial heartland in the Ashanti Region.
Once fully executed, the dual-carriageway project is expected to drastically cut down travel time between the two cities, reduce vehicle operating costs, improve road safety, and eliminate the persistent traffic bottlenecks that hamper trade and transit along the route.
