Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three Nigerian nationals following a targeted operation to dismantle a criminal syndicate behind a string of armed robberies against bank customers in Kumasi and nearby communities.
The suspects—Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, alias KC, 35—were apprehended during coordinated raids conducted by an IGP’s Special Team, which included officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
A fourth accomplice, identified as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large as police intensify efforts to bring him into custody.

According to an official press statement signed by the Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, the arrests followed actionable intelligence gathered by the operational teams.
“On 31st October 2026, at about 11:30pm, an IGP’s Special Team, comprising personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), acting on intelligence, embarked on an operation to apprehend these suspects,” Superintendent Ahianyo stated.

The initial swoop led officers to a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where Promise and Uwalaka were taken into custody. A search of their rooms yielded GH¢1,600.00 in cash, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike, and a master key used to force entry into vehicles.
Interrogations subsequently led police to a second hotel in Dechemso, where Kingsley was arrested.

Investigators revealed that the syndicate routinely monitored bank premises to identify individuals withdrawing large sums of money. Members of the gang would then trail the victims before robbing them, or use master keys to break into parked cars where cash had been left behind.
The suspects have confessed to multiple incidents across the metropolis, including a robbery on Tuesday, 27th October 2026, in Asokore Mampong, where a customer was relieved of GH¢15,000.00 shortly after withdrawing the cash from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also admitted to similar break-ins targeting customers of the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank and the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank.
“The Command is appealing to the general public to volunteer any credible information that could lead to his arrest,” the statement read, referring to the fleeing accomplice.
“Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Police through emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555”.

The three custody suspects have been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command to assist with ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, police authorities have cautioned members of the public to exercise heightened vigilance around banking halls and refrain from keeping money inside unattended vehicles.
