The security agencies in Ghana has never been given the approved resources for them to work, National Security Minister-designate Albert Kan Dapaah has stated
He said it was about time that the country allocates the needed resources to the security and intelligence services in Ghana.
Appearing before the vetting committee on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, he said the threats of terrorism have become so real over the past years hence the need for government to allocate resources for our security agencies and intelligence services to fight these threats.
Mr. Kan Dapaah noted that successive governments have not been able to give our security services the needed logistics to work despite the efforts they have consistently put in place to protect Ghanaians and the country.
He explained that the nature of threats of terrorism is real and when we do not plan properly, and put in the needed resources, we will not be able to manage the dangers associated with their activities.
He said the government has a framework in place to fight and manage extremism and terrorism in the country.
He said the document has contributions from stakeholders and he was optimistic they will help in managing any threat from attacks.
The nominee underscored the need for the country to retool the security agencies because things are changing in security management.
He said there was a need to leverage technology in security management.
This he argued will require a lot of money and something we should get our governments to get their minds to it.
According to him, he has managed to convince the cabinet in this regard.
He insisted it will be prudent to get the men, resources, logistics, and the technology to deal with threats of terrorism.
