The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumesi, has revealed that the management of our sports stadiums especially, for league games, is not generating the needed resources as expected.
He said the NSA per its contract with the various league clubs was for them to either rent out the stadiums for Ghc110,000 or to collaborate with NSA to organize matches and share gate proceeds.
He explained on Total Sports Review that the teams went for the latter option.
Prof. Twumesi said, despite the agreement, the expected revenue is not been achieved.
He posited that the NSA, as part of its mandate to promote sports, provide the clubs with discounts but they don’t get what they invested back.
He said most of the matches are category B hence revenue generated are far below expected.
He disclosed that the NSA only generates Ghc200 from matches after investing more than Ghc10,000 to prepare a venue for a game.
He said in cases where the revenue generated goes up, they get not more than Ghc1000.
He lamented that this affects the maintenance works in our various stadiums, and for this reason, they give it out for private events so they could generate revenue to manage the stadiums.
Meanwhile, he has taken a swipe at persons attacki8ng him for renting out the stadiums for concerts and other events.
He said the stadiums are not meant for only sporting activities.
He said the sporting activities don’t generate the needed revenue for the maintenance of the facilities.
