Residents of Nranoam, Kronkronso, and Amotare in the Eastern Region’s Fanteakwa North District are forced to climb trees in search of mobile network reception.
According to them, 72 villages in the communities lack stable networks and are forced to climb trees to make phone calls or send messages to family and friends, despite the risks involved.
The residents revealed that two people were attacked by wild animals two years ago while attempting to climb their tree to make phone calls.
They told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that their relatives had to search for them for several days only to discover that they had been attacked and killed.
A visit to the area revealed that residents form a line and take turns climbing the tree before making the calls.
Teachers, nurses, and other public sector workers stationed in the area frequently leave, and those who stay face difficulties making calls, connecting to the internet, or sending messages.
Jennifer Lebene, a nurse who described her ordeal, noted that the situation is affecting community healthcare delivery.
She stated that the situation needed to be addressed right away before it worsened.
Residents also demanded that authorities address the problem or they would advise themselves.
