Despite a court order barring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from swearing in its Youth Organiser-elect, George Opare Addo, the party has defied the order and sworn him in.
On Friday, December 16, the Amasaman High Court granted an Interim Injunction against the National Democratic Congress, the NDC Planning Committee Chairman, Alex Segbefia, the NDC Acting Director of Elections, Daniel Amartey, the Electoral Commission, and George Opare Addo, restraining them, their Agents and/or assigns from swearing in George Opare Addo as the NDC’s National Youth Organizer-elect.
The defendants were also barred from presenting Opare Addo as the NDC’s National Youth Organizer elect.
The restraining order was granted after the court heard an application for an interim injunction filed by Brogya Genfi, a contestant in the NDC’s recently concluded National Youth Organizer election, Ibrahim Rashid, the TEIN President of UPSA, and Paul Amaldago, the TEIN President of the University of Ghana, Legon.
They are contesting the legality of George Opare Addo’s election on the grounds that it violated two express orders/decisions of the High Court and two express directives of the National Democratic Congress.
The plaintiffs have filed a Writ of Summons seeking the annulment of the recently concluded National Youth Organizer election on the grounds that 22 TEIN President delegates who were supposed to vote in the elections were excluded and/or prevented from participating in the elections, while 17 people who were not supposed to vote were allowed to vote.
However, at its 10th National Delegates Conference, the party defied the order and swore him in as the party’s youth organiser.
