Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has responded to President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that the National Cathedral will be completed despite opposition.
The MP claims that the president’s claim that the cathedral would foster unity is false.
Religion, according to the MP, does not foster unity or protect society from civil wars; rather, it is human behaviour that does so.
The MP maintained that opposing the use of public funds for the needless cathedral project in times of debilitating hardship is not just Christian but Godly.
He also questioned why countries such as Ivory Coast visit religious edifices but was not spared civil strife.
”Mr. President, Houphouët-Boigny built a basilica, the largest in the world, in Yamoussoukro, did it avert war in Ivory Coast?
Religious edifices don’t foster unity nor do they insulate society against civil strife/war, the conduct of human beings and their interactions do.
Vehemently opposing the use of public resources to build a (needless) cathedral in times of debilitating hardship is not just Christian but Godly.
How can you justify building a cathedral when you have drastically cut capitation grants and feeding grants for Special Schools?”
