The National Cathedral Secretariat says it has done no wrong despite the allegations levelled against it by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Executive Director, Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah, said the secretariat is prepared to undergo any investigation.
Mr. Ablakwa had claimed that some GH₵2.6 million was paid to a company owned by a board member of the cathedral, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng.
But the Executive Secretary said “There is no criminality about this. In fact, everything they have said we have done has turned out to be false, and so I think there is desperation they are trying to find.”
“There is nothing criminal about this. It is always an organizational phenomenon when board members will step in when the organization they are board members of are in difficulties”, he said.
Mr. Ablakwa, who has petitioned CHRAJ to investigate a conflict of interest, claims that JNS Talent Centre Ltd, which allegedly runs a crèche in Dawhenya, was paid GH2.6 million to assist in the construction of the cathedral.
He also claimed that JNS Talent is owned by Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.
According to him, documents in his possession show that Mr Kwabena Adu Gyamfi is the same as Rev. Victor Kusi-Boateng, who is still an Executive Council Member/Director on the National Cathedral Board.
But the Secretariat has denied the allegations saying “As a normal verification – expected of a Member of Parliament – this was not an illegal payment but rather a refund of a short-term interest-free loan made by JNS to top up the payments to the contractors of the National Cathedral.”
“This support was sought from a National Cathedral Trustee Member, Rev Kusi Boateng, in a letter dated August 26, 2021, due to a delay in the receipt of funds to pay the Contractors on time.”
