‘We want our MP to die so they will fix our death trap road ahead of a by-election’ – Residents

Residents and commercial drivers who use the Kasoa-Gomoa Nyanyano Road network have shockingly expressed their hope that the member of parliament for the area, Hon. Desmond Degraft Paitoo, will die, paving the way for a by-election.

According to them, the road they travel on is now a death trap, but authorities have refused to address their concerns.

They claim that a by-election would be the quickest way to get their road fixed.

They first accused the MP of being inept for failing to lobby for the repair of their road.

They claimed that because he has failed to bring any development to the area, a by-election is the only way to get development.

They first accused the MP of being inept for failing to lobby for the repair of their road.

They claimed that because he has failed to bring any development to the area, a by-election is the only way to get development.

”At first, an NPP member was removed. We expected this MP to perform better, but he has done nothing. So, if they’re waiting for a by-election to repair the deplorable road, the MP will die so that they can come and fix it. If he dies, they should bring a machine here to fix it,” a driver explained.

”Several cars have been damaged as a result of the poor state of the road,” said another. As I speak to you, vehicles have been damaged over time. The road is terrible. Currently, a car is being pushed. It was harmed due to the poor condition of the road. If they want to wait until an election to come and mobilise us to vote for them, that is their choice”.

One other said ”the road is not good. We have complained about it several times but nobody is listening to us. The situation has affected our business”.

Meanwhile, Zongo Chief of Gomoa Nyanayano Saliki Issaka Giwa claims that over 150,000 people use the road and that due to the poor condition of the road, investors are forced to relocate their businesses to other communities, prompting the government to intervene through the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

He lamented that pregnant women are mostly affected.

”The poor nature of the road is our major challenge. No investor is willing to invest in the area. When they come and assess the area and see the deplorable nature of the road, they move away. One of the key activities we engage in here is salt production. Our salt is of high quality because we do not add additives. But those expected to come and trade with us are not coming because of the bad road.”

He also raised the issue of potable drinking water, saying residents are struggling to have good drinking water and the government must take steps to address them.
