The National House of Chiefs has voiced its opinion on the controversy surrounding the activities of the LGBTQ+ community.
The House of Chiefs firmly holds that the LGBTQ+ community’s activities are sinful and an affront to Ghana’s cultural norms.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, the president of the house, stated that the act is contrary to Ghana’s cultural values and traditions because God created man and woman to live on the land and reproduce. As a result, they will not entertain it.
Speaking at the General Meeting of the National House Chiefs on Thursday, 13 July 2023, in Kumasi, the traditional ruler said there is only male and female gender and no other gender, adding that “the Christian holy book, the Bible, Muslims’ Qur’an, and our traditions and customs affirm this fact.”
As a result, Ogyeahoho, who also serves as the Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Anhwiaso traditional area, has urged Ghanaians to help the chiefs in upholding the decency of the nation’s culture, values, and traditions.
LQBTQ+ is foreign to Ghana, and the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, stated that he is opposed to it during a working visit to the House.
He declared that the Ministry will take all necessary measures to safeguard national traditions and ensure that people did not adopt any foreign customs.
