Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia claims that the Nana Addo administration has made the most significant investments in technical and vocational education and training.
The Vice President, who is also the NPP’s presidential candidate, stated that no government in our history can match this administration’s record.
He noted that the government has invested GHC 6 billion in the last seven years to enhance skills because the world is now a world of skills, and the NPP government remains committed to investing in the sector to create more opportunities for the youth.
He reiterated that ICT was also a major area he would improve to provide jobs for the people.
“We have invested more in TVET than any government in the history of Ghana. Six billion Ghana cedis in the last seven years. We have improved all 34 NVTIs, the ten technical universities, and the 13 technical colleges. We have done a whole lot. The world is now a world of skills. That’s the world of skills, and so TVET is something we are going to focus on.”
The Vice President noted that the government plans to focus on the creative arts, tourism, and pharmaceutical sectors in order to establish Ghana as a pharmaceutical powerhouse.
He also promised to invest in sports, which are another important sector for young people, in addition to football.
He stressed the need for Ghana to be self-sufficient and create an environment for our religious bodies where they will get incentives in the area of development.
He said the religious bodies in the country have invested heavily in the establishment of universities and other developmental initiatives, but they don’t get any incentives from the state.
He stated that should these faith-based organisations fold up their hospitals and schools, Ghana will collapse; hence, there was a need for them to get duty exemptions to do more in the area of development.
Dr. Bawumia made the remarks as part of his campaign tour and meetings with the clergy and other stakeholders.
