President Akufo-Addo has maintained that Africa suffered severe repercussions due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
He cited the war’s harmful impact on African economies, living standards, and inflation rates.
The President stated that the situation also caused a widespread impact beyond the centre of the war.
“We oppose colonialism and domination, but in this context, we view Russian aggression in Ukraine.”
In his opinion, Africa has become an unintended victim of the war, with interrupted supply chains causing havoc on the continent’s businesses.
“The consequences of the invasion go far beyond the confines of Europe. Indeed, in many ways, Africa has been the greatest victim,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo made the remarks while addressing participants at the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.
He emphasised that the war caused high inflation and increasing food costs, which had a severe impact on living standards throughout Africa.
“This has had a terrible impact on our economies, on living standards, on high inflation,” he said.
He added that Africa has a role in resolving the conflict, adding, “We have an interest in participating in efforts to find a solution to this conflict.”
He called for a resolution based on comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, adhering to international law and the UN Charter.
“If we’re ever going to arrive at a definitive settlement, their involvement is essential,” he stated.
