John Dramani Mahama, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, says he is eternally grateful to God for allowing President Akufo-Addo and his vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to govern so that Ghanaians can see their level of incompetence.
The former president stated that Ghanaians expected the NPP, led by President Akufo-Addo, to deliver on their campaign promises, but they have failed miserably.
He stated that if President Akufo-Addo and his vice were not elected, Ghanaians would have claimed that they were the best economic managers we never had.
Mr. Mahama noted that Ghanaians would have held the view that the two were the best to have managed the economy better compared to him.
But after they were granted that opportunity, they have failed woefully in fulfilling the promises they made to the people.
“After electing the NPP, we hoped that they would keep all of their promises. However, we have seen how they have governed over the last eight years. Every time I kneel to pray, I thank God for giving Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu the opportunity to govern. If they had not been given the opportunity to govern, we would have heard that they are the best pair to have transformed Ghana. So we want to thank you (God) for the opportunity. We had nothing to compare them to when they made these promises.
But now we have a lot to compare with. It’s been eight years, and now we can compare the two governments. This is the record of all the noise you made. This is all they can do. “We shouldn’t expect anything new from them,” he said.
He said this during a campaign tour over the weekend.
