President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to Ghanaians to uphold the nation’s reputation as a beacon of democracy by ensuring peaceful elections today, December 7, 2024.

He said Ghana has cemented its name as a shining example of democracy, and this year’s election should serve as an opportunity to preserve this status.

In his final address to the nation on Friday, December 6, ahead of the 2024 general elections, the outgoing president said, “We should never forget that the flame of freedom needs to be protected and constantly refuelled. Elections are at the heart of a democracy, and we qualify to be counted among mature democracies after 8 successful elections.
“It is not surprising that our country is held up as a beacon of democratic stability in Africa. We should be justly proud of this and do everything we can to protect and uphold this status.”

President Akufo-Addo has asked Ghanaians to trust in the Electoral Commission (EC) in organising free, fair, and transparent elections in the December 7 presidential elections.

The president opined that the EC is now a much more efficient and transparent institution that has been entrusted to hold the upcoming elections.

He indicated that we have a good reason to be proud of the Electoral Commission (EC), which is today a much more efficient and transparent institution that we are ready to entrust with the responsibility of delivering a free, fair, and transparent election that will truly reflect the will of the people.

‘’I urge all of us to cooperate with the electoral officials to do their work and ensure that we can all be proud of having added another notch to the list of successful elections we have held.’’

He also expressed confidence in the National Security Taskforce, led by the Inspector General of Police, to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully.

He stated that the security agencies, led by the police service, have completed all necessary deployments and preparations to ensure the nation’s peace, law, and order before, during, and after the elections.
