General Secretary of the Toll Workers Union, Edward Duncan, has said the announcement for the reintroduction of road tolls was positive news.
According to him, they were prepared to offer recommendations in ensuring that the reintroduction of the tolls succeeds.
He said there are several suggestions they have that can help make the roll system improved to reduce the traffic situation motorists and the Ghanaian public have complained about.
He posited that the traffic situation does not apply to all the toll systems across the country.
He said out of the about 38 toll systems in the country, less than ten of them encountered heavy traffic. We have recommendations that we can propose as solutions to help deal with the traffic situation. We would be willing to provide these solutions and recommendations to the government if they engage us,” he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.
He also indicated that the proposal to increase the number of toll gates is also a solution, but beyond that there are other solutions, and we are prepared to offer those solutions, adding that every plaza has its specific problems or challenges, and so we would have to deal with them with specific solutions, and so if they invite us, we will provide those solutions.
He was excited because the reintroduction of the roll system will provide jobs for the unemployed or former toll workers.
He stressed that they have several ideas to make the toll system better and appealed to President John Dramani Mahama’s government to invite them over and further disclosed that the previous government did not engage them.
