Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has rendered an apology to Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over reservations the latter held about an earlier press conference addressed by the leader.
When the nominee appeared before the Appointments Committee on Friday, January 31, 2024, he expressed his misgivings about how the Minority Leader made claims that he was smuggled in before the Committee to be vetted on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The nominee categorically denied the assertions, insisting he received an official invitation to appear before the committee to be vetted.
He demanded an apology from the minority leader for him, his wife, and his guests who had come to witness the proceedings.
The leader responding to the issue rendered an apology, describing it as a political statement because his side did not have full understanding of the arrangements.
‘’The effect of my political statement was to the effect that our side had no proper understanding of yesterday’s arrangement. However, let me unconditionally apologise to your wife for how my press conference came about and how she felt about it. I will feel bad if somebody said something about my own wife. These are not ego matters. So I am sorry to your dear wife. I will also say sorry to you. I will be the last person to run you down.’’
