Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture John Dumelo, who doubles as Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, says his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama was based on his competence.
He stated that all the appointees of President John Dramani Mahama have the experience and competencies to support his reset agenda.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said his appointment was not surprising.
Joining the Mother’s Day celebration free screening exercise organised by the station, John Dumelo said the most important thing is that he has what it takes to support Mr Eric Opoku, the minister.
“When you examine the ministers appointed by President Mahama, you will discover that each and every one of us have backgrounds in fields that are in line with our respective ministries. It was in the wisdom of the president in appointing his ministers. He knew I was competent, and that was why he appointed me.
The point is that I have to remain dedicated and prove my worth as deputy minister, and that is what I will continue to do,” he stated.
He assured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to delivering on its mandate and will not fail at it.
Mr Dumelo stressed, “President Mahama was confident with my hands-on experience; appointing a deputy to support Eric Opoku will yield positive results.
He stated that one of the key ideas is for us to grow more food to feed Ghanaians and also for exports.
Touching on the Feed Ghana Programme, he said the government aims to create employment for thousands of Ghanaians in farming, processing, and agribusiness sectors.
The initiative will provide farmers with the Grains and Legumes Development Initiative, Advancement of Smart Agriculture, Vegetable Development Project, Support for Institutional Farming, Revitalisation of the Poultry Sector, Livestock Development Initiative, Feed the Industry Programme, Cocoa Industry Support, Cotton Production Expansion, Oil Palm Industry Development, Other Industrial Crop Initiatives, Investment in Infrastructure and Agro-Production Enclave and Innovative Agricultural Financing.
The programme will strengthen value chains by ensuring that agricultural produce is efficiently processed into food products and industrial inputs, reducing post-harvest losses and enhancing food security.
