A clear majority of Ghanaian voters support the creation and approval of regional tribunals across the country, according to the latest survey by research firm Global Info Analytics.
The special telephone poll, conducted between 15th and 24th July 2024, reveals that 63 per cent of registered voters approve of the regional tribunals.
In contrast, 19 per cent expressed disapproval, while 17 per cent remained undecided or offered no opinion.
Strong Cross-Party Endorsement
An analysis of party affiliations shows widespread backing across the political spectrum, though the degree of enthusiasm varies.
Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lead the charge with an overwhelming 82 per cent approval rate, compared to a mere 5 per cent opposition and 12 per cent with no opinion.
Floating voters also demonstrate solid support, with 55 per cent approving the initiative against 29 per cent who oppose it.
Among voters belonging to other minor political parties, 60 per cent endorse the setup of the tribunals.
Conversely, voters aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and those who chose not to disclose their political affiliations registered a plurality of support rather than an absolute majority.
NPP voters recorded 45 per cent approval against 34 per cent disapproval, with 20 per cent undecided. Voters with undisclosed affiliations yielded a 48 per cent approval rate, with 20 per cent opposing and 33 per cent holding no opinion.
Across the 16 administrative regions, regional tribunals command strong majority support in almost every part of the country.
In the Ashanti Region, a vital political hub, a clear majority of 52 per cent of voters approve of the tribunals, while 30 per cent disapprove and 18 per cent remain neutral.
Stronger majorities were recorded in regions such as the Upper West Region at 82 per cent, Central Region at 77 per cent, Western North Region at 76 per cent, and Volta Region at 73 per cent.
In the Greater Accra Region, 63 per cent of polled voters approved the proposal.
The Ahafo and Bono regions are the only areas without an absolute majority in support. Nevertheless, voters in both regions still leaned in favour, recording a plurality of support.
Ahafo recorded 44 per cent approval, 10 per cent disapproval, and a large 46 per cent undecided segment. Similarly, the Bono Region saw 48 per cent approval, 24 per cent disapproval, and 28 per cent offering no opinion.
The findings indicate that public sentiment remains firmly behind the decentralisation and establishment of regional judicial tribunals across Ghana.
