The MPs who endorsed Bawumia did so for the sake of their stomachs – Analyst

June 20, 2025
Bawumia and MPs

Political analyst Mr Alex Emmanuel Nti has claimed that the Members of Parliament on the side of the Minority who have declared their support for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia did so for their personal and selfish interests.

He stated that the support or endorsement of Dr Bawumia ahead of the party’s January 31, 2026 presidential primary is based on what they will get and from a genuine place of support.

“The endorsement of Bawumia by the MPs is not strange or surprising because when the party had 137 MPs and ministers endorsing him, he secured 38-point-something percent. So if today only 60 have endorsed him, it is not an indication that he will win the national elections.

But what this also reflects is that several of the MPs have realised that Bawumia will be the party’s primary candidate, and if he wins, as an MP, he will certainly support you.

Bawumia has made some good money, and as an MP who has supported him, he will certainly support you to embark on projects. That is why all these MPs are declaring their support for him. So it is because of their stomachs; that is why they are doing that.”

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he posited that the NPP’s decision to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2025, undermines the party’s own constitution and rules.

‘’The decision by the NPP to organise an early presidential primary is purely a gimmick and could trigger court injunctions from aggrieved party members.’’
