Minority Chief Whip Frank Annor-Dompreh has called on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a Deputy Health Minister to support the substantive Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
He stated that Mr Akandoh urgently needs a deputy to help reduce his workload.
He made the appeal on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, after the minister had briefed the House on the resurgence of COVID-19 cases at the University of Ghana campus.
Mr Annor-Dompreh jokingly said the health minister is growing grey hair due to the workload, and it was important for the president to be reminded to appoint a deputy to assist him.
“The minister has no deputy. His Excellency the President should be reminded of the four outstanding deputies. Akandoh has no deputy. His hair is getting grey. The man is suffering. One moment he is at Bolga; the next moment he is here. He needs a deputy. It will help him,” he said.
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri Member of Parliament also argued that the minister needs more funds following the resurgence of the COVID-19 outbreak.
He further appealed to the Speaker of Parliament to direct the minister to brief the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health every two weeks and keep them abreast of what authorities were doing in dealing with the situation.
