Mrs. Abigail Amponsah Nutakor, a Deputy Director at the Electoral Commission and Head of Gender, Youth and Disability, has been accredited as an International Elections Observer by the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).
She received this prestigious certification under the auspices of ECOWAS at a training session held from August 11-14, 2025.
The intensive session brought together 14 carefully selected participants from across the ECOWAS subregion, including three representatives from Ghana, alongside others from The Gambia, Senegal, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Liberia.
The training provided participants with crucial skills in election management and observation.
About Mrs Amponsah Nutakor
An accomplished election administrator with over 20 years of professional experience, Mrs. Nutakor is currently a Deputy Director in the Electoral Services Department, where she oversees matters of Gender, Youth, and Disability.
Her extensive career with the Electoral Commission of Ghana began as a District Electoral Officer in the Eastern Region, a position she held for seven years from 2004 to 2011.
She then transitioned to the Head Office, where she has served as the Head of Gender, Youth, and Disability ever since.
In her current role, she acts as a key liaison between the Commission and external organizations on issues related to gender, youth, and disability, providing expert advice and implementing programs to ensure the effective participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in electoral activities.
She actively participates in the operational planning, implementation, and monitoring of all election-related activities, making critical contributions to address the challenges faced by various stakeholders.

Mrs. Nutakor has proudly represented Ghana’s Electoral Commission at various international organizations, including ECOWAS, UN WOMEN, UNDP, and USAID, in countries such as Nigeria, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Rwanda, and South Korea.
A distinguished academic, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Ghana and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Management and Management Consulting from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
She has also enhanced her professional expertise by undertaking a number of courses at the Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Studies (GIMPA).
