President of the National Graduate Teachers Association of Ghana (NAGRAT), Mr. Angel Carbonu, has advised parents to refrain from paying for their children to obtain unfair assistance during the Basic Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior High Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
He addressed the issue of exam malpractice, exam leakages, and strategies to tackle this perennial problem.
Mr. Carbonu criticised parents who take pride in facilitating their children’s engagement in exam malpractice, emphasising the need for collective action to address this issue.
He described the issue of exam leakages and malpractice as a serious problem orchestrated by a network of perpetrators.
Mr Angel Carbonu also holds parents accountable as collaborators in this issue, blaming them for paying money to buy ‘apor’ (leaked questions). “You can’t blame only the students taking the exams,” he asserted.
“Parents are also at fault because they are the ones who pay when their children ask for money to buy ‘apor’ for GHC 500.”
Mr. Carbonu noted that the issue is challenging, and as a teacher association, they are extremely concerned and advocating for a solution to finally resolve the situation.
When asked to propose solutions, he suggested intensified public education and urged the law to deal severely with those responsible for the leakages to serve as a deterrent to others.
