A special security operation set up by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has resulted in the arrest of 16 suspected drug peddlers in the Aboabu Forest in the Tamale Metropolis.
The arrests were made last night during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks operating within the forest enclave. According to police sources, the suspects were found in possession of large quantities of illicit drugs, including tramadol and Indian hemp.
The Aboabu Forest has in recent times been identified by security agencies as a hideout for criminal activities, particularly drug peddling and consumption, raising serious concerns among residents and authorities.
All 16 suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. The seized substances have been secured as evidence, while further operations are expected to continue to flush out remaining criminal elements in the area.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety, especially in identified crime-prone zones within the Tamale Metropolis.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to support ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
